A Pirate King Might Love Me 1.20.15

2015/01/img_3412.jpg
Not to brag too much but I recently discovered a Pirate King is a big fan of my blog. For some reason he lives in a shack. But that’s fine, I don’t judge! I just think that maybe being King and all he might choose a pirate castle or something, but shack is cool too.

Anyways, he eased into the multitude of comments slowly.

Does running a well-established website such as yours take a large amount of work?

I was so flattered! “A well-established website such as mine”! Oh boy. And yes, Pirate King, it does take some work but not an overly large amount, thank you for asking.

Your means of describing the whole thing in this paragraph is really nice, every one be
capable of effortlessly know it

Again with the flattery, Pirate King. *blushes furiously* I suppose it would be cool for everyone to effortlessly know about my bracelet collection. Bracelets are pretty universal, right? I mean even a famous Pirate King is apparently into them so…

I suppose its good enough to use some of your ideas

Huh. Okay, I must admit this feels a bit like a back handed compliment. I’ll tell you up front, I don’t know how I feel about that, Pirate King.

This post could not be written much better! Looking through this post reminds me of my previous roommate!
He continually kept preaching about this. I am going to send this information to him. Fairly certain he will have a great read.

So you’re saying my post could be written better? I guess that’s fair. We all have room to improve. But I don’t know about this former roommate of yours. How did you both fit in a shack? Is he also a pirate? And why’s he preaching about bracelets? I mean, I can talk bracelets, man. But even I don’t proselytize about them. However, thanks for forwarding my blog on to him.

Everything is very open

Yeah, totally. Everything. A quick question, Pirate King, are we still talking jewelry?

But so, since the Pirate King is so interested in my bracelets, here’s today’s bangles: Hermes twilly wrapped bangle, a JKC ripped off by Chanel bangle, and my dad’s Baume & Mercier watch.

#14 VERY GIFTED : GIFT IDEAS

Gift ideas for:
*the Italian Sister in Law
*the Black Amex Card Member
*the Smartass

Welcome all to the home stretch of gift ideas. I was so clever, I wrote a bunch of posts in advance and scheduled them to publish then bam, here we reach my non scheduled posts. Did I mention it’s Sunday and I woke up today at 5 a.m. to go to work? My status update today for fb is “The more tired I am, the more makeup I put on. Today you would never guess I don’t work for the oldest profession.” Subtle, right? Pats on the back all around and then I must return to working. BUT FIRST!

This is the matching necklace to the earrings we gave my sister in law for her bday. It’s from one of my neighbor boutiques Mabel Chong. The raw ruby is so beautiful, a deep luscious magenta. Magenta is such an outdated word, isn’t it? It sounds so much less beautiful than it is.

Another of my merchant neighbors is Twiga Gallery. Twiga is from Tanzania and her collection of jewelry is all from various places in Africa. It’s more art than jewelry. So if you want to buy something unique, exotic, from far away lands for prices unknown…. Seriously, I have no idea what the prices are on her pieces but I know they are fancy levels.

“If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.” -Chairman Mao. Just kidding. I don’t know who said that but it’s inscribed on a smartass bangle of mine.

It’s one of the saying bangles 👆 same brand as above made by Jessica Kagan Cushman, a favorite jewelry designer of mine.

So how’s everybody doing? You finished with your shopping yet? I still have my mom left. She wants sunscreen. So I need to figure out something better than sunscreen to give her. Sunscreen. Let me repeat that, all my mom wants for XMas is sunscreen. SMH.

The rainbow connection

Yesterday The Honking Goose, a blogger whose posts I find rather delightful wrote on a topic that strikes me very near to my heart. Gay rights. Her post was intended to be humorous, and me, the ever politically correct overly sensitive excessively earnest individual that I am overreacted a bit. It’s a very thought provoking article, go read it. You’ll maybe understand why it got me all hot and bothered, maybe not. I think part of the problem was the level of sarcasm was lost on me, or hard to read. This JKC bangle represents me overreacting: off with her head!

IMG_2734.JPG

Regardless, she got me thinking about rainbows. Beautiful magical rainbows and the rainbow flag. The pride flag of San Francisco. And you know what? I love that flag. It’s takes a beautiful natural occurrence (rainbows) to celebrate the most beautiful natural occurrence: LOVE.

But she felt, as a straight person, that the rainbow is gone from her. That she can’t use it any longer. To which I say, why not? There are so many layers here to unpack.

First up, of course you can still celebrate and love rainbows. Rainbows are universal. Really anybody, gay or straight, can wear this Sobral bracelet for $90

IMG_2731.JPG The challenge is finding the outfit to go with it.

Secondly, even though rainbows also celebrate gay pride, so what? If the fear is that people might think you’re gay, guess what? That probably won’t happen but so what if they do? What’s the problem with someone thinking you’re gay? I think they’ll figure out pretty quick that you’re not. Worst case scenario it’ll be like mistaking you for someone who likes peanut butter, offering you a Reese’s and then you pass saying “You know, I’m just not a peanut butter eater, but thanks for the offer.” That’s presuming of course that you have any sort of appeal to be offered the peanut butter to begin with. Which, eh, how many people actually hit on you regularly? Sooooooo….. There’s that.

Though actually, whatever you do! Don’t mistake me for a peanut butter eater. I don’t want all those people pushing their Reese’s Pieces and Butterfingers on me. It’s just gross, and unnatural. Seriously tho. I hate peanut butter. This etsy bracelet by LifeTravelDesigns is so much barf to me. Ugh.

Back to rainbows. Go for it. Wear them, enjoy them, celebrate what they sometimes represent: love. I can promise the first thing I usually think when I see someone wearing rainbows is not that they are gay it’s that they are a 90’s candy raver, and for that I’ll judge you.

1.11.12 black gloss

I’m wearing the Elsa Peretti black lacquer earrings from the same collection as the bracelet. Feeling kind of matchy matchy today. The bangle is wood painted in black lacquer and made in Japan. Paired with the “Ripped off by Chanel” bracelet from JKC. I believe the story behind it is: JKC was consulted by Chanel regarding her signature scrim shaw style, and then Chanel ripped her off. This is probably her most well known bracelet.

1.7.12 Greener and greener

I usually favor my left hand to sport the bangles, but today I’m going all out multi-hand-bangled.

Left hand: horn bangle I found at the dog park, the standard every day silver, viv+ingrid id bracelet, green enamel from the flea market, and green caleche.

Right hand: the asshole bracelet by Jessica Kagan Cushman “if you have to ask you can’t afford it”!!! An ebay find. I like the JKC bracelets for their scrimshaw style and sassy sayings.
