12.11.14 stormy weather

IMG_3204.JPG
It is rainy in SF which means our entire city has ground to a halt. We don’t know how to handle weather! If there is any truer statement about San Francisco, please let me know. I didn’t go to work today because the shop has no power. Correction, I did go to work today, discovered I had no power, and returned home.

My dogs refuse to go outside to take care of business. Chihuahuas, I tell ya. These raincoats are purely decorative.

Here’s a car swimming thru the intersection. My picture is terrible, I apologize.

Finally, a life tip from me to you. When you buy a salad, turn it upside down to eat so you get the boring stuff out of the way first. You are welcome.

Today’s bracelets are a turquoise Taxco cuff, and a green stone (what is this stone?) and silver bracelet also from Mexico.

11.28.14 silver friday

IMG_3138.JPG
Yep, yours truly is working today. But black Friday is usually a bit quiet at my shop. People tend to hit up the big box stores and not our little boutique-y neighborhood. In a minute I will commence the nine Xmas tree decoration kick.

First tho, my bangles. A cuff from Mexico, Claudia’s silver ID bracelet, my mom’s Route de Corse ID bracelet she gave me yesterday, my special little figuinha charm bracelet, and a silver bangle from Taxco. Some of these I will list in my online boutique soon- the Mexican cuff and bangle, as well as Claudia’s ID bracelet. So if you know a Claudia…here’s the link to my shop.

Also today I’m wearing my mom’s charm brooch from Bahia. Nice closeup of my boob, eh? But the charms! A tortuga, elephant, grapes, figa, other I don’t know whats. And the one non silver charm, a skate key?

Happy shopping, you guys.

Today I received a comment on one of my blog posts, a post that I’m particularly proud of because its subject is bleak and personal but I worked very hard to balance the dark hurt aspects with humor and light. Because everything has a humorous side. Don’t get me going on colon cancer. It’s a fucking laugh riot. See? That was funny because colon cancer is NOT a laugh riot, the punchline subverts my entire thesis statement. Humor, right? Hahaha. I’m fucked up, ok?

Anyway, the post I’m talking about is Ghost Dad LOL. I’ve really appreciated the various comments I have received on it. Up until today. Because today’s commenter, not someone with a WP blog, said “love stream of consciousness writing…no going back, editing”… WTF DUDE! Do you not realize HOW MUCH going back and editing I do on each and every post? Sure, sometimes grammar errors slip thru, sometimes that grammar error is intentional, sometimes I misspell something and don’t catch it but NEVER NOT EVER have I posted a stream of consciousness post. Maybe in a comment once or twice. Sort of?

I completely acknowledge that I am twisting my own panties in a bunch with very little cause. Fine, the commenter attempted a compliment. Maybe he doesn’t know what stream of consciousness is?

If that’s the case, here’s stream of consciousness:
Typing odn an ipad sucks and my fingers move too slow. I hate this song right now, shoudlnt have eaten that whole oanini. Greta more typos. Fat fingers. Cokd table. wtf.

👆That’s a pretty garbage blog post, right? Say what you like about my writing, but don’t ever say that I don’t go back and edit. That is the realm where I am KING.

Today’s bangles are: flacons de parfum, rouge Calèche, silver Taxco bangle, skinny silver Tiffany’s bangle, and wide Tiffany’s bangle from Christmas 1994.

Now ask me my opinion on starting a blog post with “I”; this rant train is the express and we are making no stops today.

11.19.14 silver sleuth

IMG_3047.JPG
Last night at dinner my mom gave me this bracelet 👆 that I am wearing today. It was black with tarnish and she was uncertain if it was from her mom, or from my namesake, my mom’s Aunt Margaret. I am basically Nancy Drew when it comes to the internet sleuthing, and I successfully Nancy Drewed the isht out of this puppy.

First, I polished this up, then I started my research. Through my googling skills I quickly found some very similar pieces listed on eBay and Etsy. These were variously listed as vintage Mexican or Aztec of Mayan. But, from what I’ve seen, Taxco (Mexico’s main silver city) stamps their silver Taxco. This bracelet has no such stamp. Nor does it sport the standard, legally required 925 that indicates a piece is Sterling. But all of this could maybe be explained due to the age of my new bracelet.

However, internet sleuthing was not yet complete! There is a stamp, it’s simply one I hadn’t seen before. 0.900…. Again to the google where I learned this is a South American manner of stamping silver.

Mystery solved! Between my Grandmother (Brazilian) and my Great Aunt (American) this bracelet was most likely my Grandmother’s. So from one Brazilian to another, thank you Grandmother! And thank you Google.

10.24.14 saddest lil pumpkin ever

IMG_2895.JPG

IMG_2894.JPG Isn’t this just dinky, and sad, and adorable, and pathetic, and cute? I love the Halloween décor that I encounter on my walk to work. But especially this one! It’s like somebody received a fragment of the Halloween memo. Yes, this tiny pumpkin is all by itself and decorated with stickers. Stickers! But still it sits proudly on the front stoop. Step to the beat of a different drum, tiny pumpkin!

Today on my wrist I’m wearing an orange Hermès Calèche, three turquoise and silver cuffs- the biggest one is from Taxco the others are Native American, and an orange Clic-Clac.

Taxco

No, this is not an accounting post.

Taxco, Mexico sits atop a great big silver mine. It’s from where (whence, dude, whence) most Mexican silver originates. In my collection my silver pieces are either Tiffany’s, Native American or Taxco. That was probably the single most snobbiest sentence I’ve ever written. All my jewels are Tiffany’s, dahling. And when I don’t shop Tiffany’s I jet down to Taxco. En e weigh, when a tumblr slash website Mexican Silver Store started following me, my eyes popped open. Mexican silver = candy for Margaret and I was not disappointed.

But what I did not anticipate is the copper. The copper! Wow, so pretty. I don’t have any copper jewelry, do you? Brass, silver, nickel, rubber, gold, sure but not copper.

$79.95 for a pair of bangles! And I have the 10% discount code which is Tumblr

I probably won’t pull the trigger because it is actually pretty uncommon for me to buy the items I lust after but… I do want this! I must remind myself this is why I have a blog, to lust by proxy.

What do you think about the layered clamp bracelet?
Also $79.95

IMG_2853.JPG
Cleopatra would probably wear a set of matching ones on each wrist.

But hold up a second, here is the tour de force on the Mexican Silver website. Some background first. When my honey and I visit Mexico we stay at Cabo Pulmo which is in Baja where there are a lot of camarones to be had. This means, I order camarones for every single meal. So I MUST HAVE this skrimps bangle.

IMG_2854.JPG
It seems appropriate to express my food preferences via my bracelets. I am that type of lady. Hellllooooooooo Tiffany’s! Bet Tiffany’s is re-examining their database now and plink, I think I just heard my name removed from their mailing list.

It was worth it!! Je regrette rien! Come this way, camarones, I promise to offer you a nice home.

10.15.14 slept in my silver

IMG_2813.JPG Here’s a secret, sometimes I forget to wash my face before going to bed. And sometimes, I forget to wash my face and then I forget to take of my bracelets. Guess what happened last night? I even fell asleep before my episode of Supernatural. Then today started with an early morning of hauling stuff to a boutique event and setting up shop. So here I am, in yesterday’s jewelry. 🙀

But guess what else? This boutique event is at SF Towers, a posh retirement community and one of the other vendors is hiho silver! Soooooo like a girl on a walk of shame stopping to buy panties at the drugstore, I bought a new bracelet! Isn’t it pretty? It’s the delicate little silver knot cuff, $55, which I find exceptionally reasonable, recently imported from Taxco Mexico.

I spent lunch talking with Victoria, the owner of hiho silver (intentionally all lowercase) and I think hers may be my new favorite shop. I’m sending my honey there for Christmas. And hopefully you all will check the shop out next time you’re in the market for a little something silver. Hiho!
