Burnt Sienna

The Cocktail Hour posted this super funny Sienna Miller for Vogue video. It had me cracking up, self taught ballet? I love it. I, too, know some self taught ballet, but my self taught karate is less dangerous to those around me.

In an effort to continue to pimp my Chairish account, ahem and my special promo code (BathSense20 works sitewide!! Until Feb 11) I took it upon myself to find some killer vintage earrings like Sienna Miller’s the chandelier one (singular, she’s wearing one singular earring) in the video above.
giant earrings
How about these basket weave with topaz ones listed by V Vintage in Beverly Hills 90210? They’d be a good gift for the V-Day, damas y caballeros.

Back to the topic of Sienna Miller, do you guys like her? Though the movie Factory Girl (about Edie Sedgewick who I adore!) was pretty tedious, I can’t think of anything else that she’s been in. But I find her very stylish and gorgeous (of course) and this video above is such a delight.

Henry Morgan Kopek Prawno

Forever pocket watch
Today I checked my stats on how search engines find my blog. As usual, there are a large number of porn hits. Dog porn drives the most traffic to VeryBangled.com followed quickly by kopek porn. I googled kopek, it means ‘dog’ in Turkish. Score! I’m bringing in the international dog porn searchers! After we wade thru all the multiple porn and dog searches, the next most frequent search theme that brings you to me* is Forever + Henry Morgan + pocket watch. In a variety of combos.

Everybody is trying to find the brand of Henry Morgan’s pocket watch. This is some hard information to come by. My other Henry Morgan post and my other pocket watch post don’t return the exact brand. But you know what? After a lot of research today, I think Henry Morgan’s watch is by A. Lange Sohne, and dude, that isht disturbs the Forever timeline!
A. Lange Soehne Christies
A. Lange Sohne started in 1845 which doesn’t exactly jive with Henry Morgan’s narrative (being born in 1779 and all.)(Interesting side note, A. Lange Sohne’s stamp changed sometime after 1890 with an added curve to the ‘A. Lange’ part of the logo which is much different from Henry Morgan’s watch.)(Oh my god. I think I might accidentally be the Henry Morgan pocket watch expert.)
pocket watch bracelet
So then I wondered if there were any great pocket watches on Chairish.com since I have a -20% discount code that works until Feb 11, BathSense20, for you all to use. Anyway, no pocket watches! But I found this awesome bracelet/watch that I have never seen on an episode of Forever. However I have faith that with the right tie Henry Morgan could make it work.

*Welcome! All coffee is complimentary but cream is extra. Also, you are probably going to be disappointed on the dog/porn front.

Chairish Sale

Two Valentine’s Day posts in one day? On a day that’s not yet Valentine’s day? Am I crazy? Or should I apologize to you all? Maybe the answer is D. all of the above.

Chairish gave me a promo code to give out!! Hooty hoo. I feel special. It’s almost as awesome as Kay Jewelers sending me unsolicited jewelry, which I continue to hope will happen. BUT SO, Chairish is a great vintage site (art, antiques, jewelry, baby koalas) and I sell jewelry on it here:cute baby koalas that I mentioned earlier, ahem I mean my shop.

So what’s the promo code, Margaret?! You yell at me from across the room. It’s BathSense20 and saves you 20% off until Feb 11th. Plus I’ll include a gift with purchase which may or may not be a cute baby koala.

So I think I mentioned a couple times in passing how I’m now listing jewelry on Chairish.com. Like the Rhodonite bangles in the above photo (the dark rose colored ones) and so I thought I’d tell you guys that I’m a terrible negotiator. Chairish has a “make an offer” option and, hypothetically, if anybody likes the things I’ve listed on there? Well, make me an offer. It’s not that I “can’t” refuse so much as I pretty much “don’t” refuse. I am so lucky my dating life is long over.

Today’s bangles: Rhodonite bangles (coming soon to my Chairish.com listing, the last Hermes bangle from my dad, and two horn bangles.

And yes, my two dogs are back there hiding from the BIG NAUGHTY DOG.

12.27.14 back from the dead

Oh! Hey there! It’s been a while, right? December kills me every year. Those last 14 days leading up to Christmas is solely work and sleep, that’s it. I still have this weird hangover. But now it’s over and I’m wearing cozy pants! And a big sweater and my honey is making some coffee. But I have some crazy shit to tell you all.

First, some background. I started buying bracelets by the pound from Goodwill for the purpose of selling some jewelry at my shop (ok, really because I love bangles, duh, but selling is an added perk.) These Goodwill bracelet grab bags are a crap shoot. In one lot there were two pieces of Sterling Taxco stamped jewelry. But that kind of thing is balanced by a bunch of junk stuff I throw out, then there’s the in between fun and inexpensive costume jewelry. Each time I open my grabbag I’m hoping for Bakelite. Bakelite, for those who don’t know is a vintage type of resin/plastic jewelry that was very mod and popular in the 60s. The black rhinestone one on my wrist in the pic above is probably Bakelite.

So when this 👆showed up I was stoked. I thought it might be Bakelite. But you know what? This is not Bakelite. Guess WTF this treasure is?!?

Fucking ivory.

Giant ass ivory bangle.

My picture makes my arm look deformed long, but you get the idea. This is a huge bangle that was part of my $20 for 10 lbs of bangles. Now the question is, what do I do with my new albatross? It’s gorgeous, it’s valuable, it’s impossible to sell and maybe even illegal for me to try. It represents the needless slaughter of one of my favorite animals (elephant). I’ve never seen anything like it before.

Today’s bangles include two XMas presents- the yellow enamel bangle was from one of my brothers, and the Hermès Colliers de Chien is from my honey. I cried when I opened it, I assumed with my dad’s death that was the end of the line for my Hermès bangle collection. But my honey! I love him. The rest of the bangles are Goodwill, black rhinestone square Bakelite, a red jeweled Indian bangle, black needlepoint bangle, Swarovski crystal bangle.

12.18.14 fool’s gold

Remember my love of Goodwill? If no, here is why- the middle wide ribbed cuff that I am wearing today. I bought it and it looked like this:

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f14/31140139/files/2014/12/img_3222.jpg
Can you see that? Here’s the closeup:

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f14/31140139/files/2014/12/img_3222-0.jpg
Hideous, right? Some numnuts splatter painted a cuff bracelet with ugly colors of acrylic paint. But, I’m proud to say, I saw the potential. The little chips showed something shine-y and for a few frantic moments I thought I’d found gold. GOLD! I freaked out, then soaked, scrubbed, and chipped at the paint. Despite the top photo with the jewelry cleaner this was mostly accomplished with my finger nails. I am a classy dame.

Alas, no gold. The easy test was holding a magnet up to it. Gold is not magnetic, brass and other metals are. But whatevs. Look how gorgeous it is, regardless of the material.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/f14/31140139/files/2014/12/img_3223.jpg
Yay me!
Today’s bangles are: Astrologie from my honey, the Angela Cummings bangle that was a gift from my dad to my mom, my Goodwill find, and a silver Tiffany’s woven looking bracelet.

Watch It, Buster

#13 VERY GIFTED: GIFT IDEAS

Gift ideas for:
*the Peaky Blinder
*the Kid At Heart
*the Matching Couple

In a world where we all use our cells to tell the time watches have become something less common, something decorative, and fashionable. Watches are more similar now to other pieces of jewelry, more a style statment and less function driven. Shoot, I can go most of a day not realizing my watch is upside down. Oops! But the cool watches still make great gifts. You can easily spend a fortune on a watch. However, you can also find some fun ones for very little.

Susan of the excellent photo fame (seriously, snow shots that are so gorgeous), turned me on to the Netflix series Peaky Blinders. It stars all my favorite Brits! And it’s set in the early 1900’s after some war or another. These dapper Irish gangsters sport the most lovely pocket watches.
pocket watch
This one offered by Ruby Lane is vintage, in excellent condition AND 18K gold, ideal for channeling an inner turn of the century mob yearning. I am a big fan of the pocket watch gift.

The polar opposite watch? Swatch Watch
swatch
Oh how I used to want one of these SOOOOO badly!
blue swatch
Swatch is still so great. Find me some jelly bracelets and a hyper color t-shirt and you have my 2nd grade wardrobe.

I don’t know exactly what “couples” watches are. My brother would love to outfit coordinate with his girlfriend at all times, if she would only allow it. I guess that’s why the category “couples watches” exists on the Swatch website.
white watch
This brother of mine is a contractor but also likes his white jeans and purple leather jacket. Our family has been compared to the Royal Tenenbaums, and he is definitely the Margot of the family. I think I might be the pet dalmatian, Spark Plug. So this watch may be up his alley. Not only can he twin with his g-fri but he can do it bling bling style. Or like a Miami drug dealer. Maybe my comparison is wrong, my brother is less like Margot Tenenbaum and more like a white Tony Montana who makes houses. Maybe? It’s been such a long day, and I am nearly delirious. I hope my brother doesn’t read this, he really won’t appreciate being compared to Scarface.

The Philes

#4 Very Gifted: Gift Ideas

Gifts for:
*The Sinaphile
*The Cinephile
*The Cynophile

Do you know one of those phile-istines? You know, that person who is all ’bout it, ’bout it? This is the gift list for them. The person who’s into all things Chinese culture (the Sinaphile) (ahem, Susan’s mom), all things cinema (the Cinephile), and/or all things dog (the Cynophile aka yours truly).

For the Sinaphile, my first stop was Gump’s. In case you aren’t familiar with Gump’s, it’s a San Francisco department store. But it’s more than a regular department store; it’s magestic, fancy, dating back to the Gold Rush, and not a chain. Not a chain department store! And you thought you’d heard of everything. Gump’s draws a lot of it’s inspirations from Asia.
buddha
The Gump’s Ch’ing Dynasty gilded wood Buddha is the largest of its kind outside of a museum, according to the Gump’s website. What I’m trying to say is, Gump’s knows their shit. So for the die hard Sinaphile, I recommend a Gump’s jade bracelet.
jade bracelet
This puppy is pretty pricy, however. So back-up jade bangle recommendation?
Ruby Lane
HOLY SHIT!! VINTAGE GIVENCHY FOR $65. This one blows my mind. For realz.

Moving on! The Cinephile, what is a good gift (besides movie tickets) for the Cinephile? I originally scouted out the Sundance gift boutique, but though they offer lovely jewelries, there wasn’t a thing that said “film aficionado”. So I asked myself, what does it mean to be a Cinephile? Who would you love best? Wong Kar Wai? Truffaut? For so many reasons, I am going with Hitchcock. Thanks to the Learn about Gemstones blog for reminding me of the lovely ruby necklace in Vertigo.

It’s hard to find something comparable but I like this Max & Chloe ruby drop necklace.

Finally, the Cynophiles. Now we are SUPER easy. Just pick out our brand of dog! Unfortunately for the mutts of the world you’ll have to approximate. This little guy by Dogeared is good for Chihuahua and the Chiweenies toooooo.
chiweenie

What do you think? Everybody happy with the ideas so far? Need help finding something special? I’m on it! “Woof woof,” says Leroy. “I’m ready for dinner,” says Bandit.

Mom First

#1 VERY GIFTED: GIFT IDEAS

Gifts for:
*The Family Tree Loving Mom
*The Picture Sharing Mom
*The Money Is No Object Mom

Welcome, welcome to my gift idea bonanza! Day one, we are starting with those special ladies in our lives, MOMS! You might be married to one, you might be a child of one, or you might be best friends with one. What can I say, there’s lots of moms about. My gift ideas go from least expensive and proceed to most expensive. Because there’s got to be some kind of order here. (I think my mom taught me that.) So if you love a mom, and you need a gift, I present you my curated options.

Branch
Of all the mom jewelry out there, this is hands down the loveliest that I’ve found. The jewels between the branches represent the birth month of each kid. You pick the gem stones, quantity, alakazaam! Instant customized family tree necklace. They even include a birth month/gemstone code. Handy right?

You know those moms, they love themselves some sharing of pictures. Before facebook there were lockets. This is a beautiful vintage heart locket pendant, 14k yellow gold, with two framed compartments. It’s on you to add the photos. It’s so classically pretty. Simple, but sentimental. Only the coldest of hearts wouldn’t love this gift.

But maybe the mom in your life is a little fancier and you’d like to give her something extra special. Nothing says “I love you” like gold and diamonds. Sure it costs a pretty penny, but who can put a price tag on love?
love you
Afterall, this lady went through 52 hours of labor. Doesn’t that warrant a little appreciation? You don’t call, you don’t write. This is probably the least you could do.

Happy holidays, moms! Think of me when you get that heart tattoo. Margaret is spelled with two As.
